A Feast of Fun for the summer holidays

What a wonderful Feast of Fun has taken place this summer in Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland. There have been so many great activities and we are very grateful to all those who have partnered with us to make Feast of Fun possible.

Feast of Fun across Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough groups have enjoyed a great Feast of Fun summer. 20 groups for children and families and 9 groups for young people took part in Feast of Fun festivities throughout the summer holidays. From sport to yoga, arts & crafts to cooking, and learning about animals to dancing children and young people participated in an array of enriching activities and workshops this summer. A volunteer shared a story about a child’s younger sibling joining in their craft to make a friendship bracelet, and even at such a young age she understood they were to give to one of your friends. When she finished making it, she walked over to one of the volunteers helping at the Feast of Fun, gave it to him and said, “Friend”.

And of course, you can’t do Feast of Fun without the feast! We need to give a huge thank you to Quorn for not only providing groups with free Quorn products but also for the cooking workshops they put on for our groups. They encouraged children to get involved in cooking healthy meals and to try new foods that they’ve never had before or thought they didn’t like. One girl said, “I tried Chilli for the first time because that was the recipe I helped to make.”. We also need to say a big thank you to Literacy Trust Middlesbrough who donated around a thousand books for children to have this summer.

Feast of Fun across Redcar & Cleveland

Feast of Fun met in 9 different venues across Redcar and Cleveland this summer. It was wonderful to see children enjoying fun activities and coming together with their families to enjoy delicious lunches lovingly prepared by local volunteers.

One Mum said “My daughter has loved the Feast of Fun activities this summer. She got to make new friends, try new foods and enjoy so many different activities and best of all NO SCREENS!"

One of the special elements of Feast of Fun is that we have volunteers of all ages and so it has been wonderful to see people in their senior years crafting, dancing and having fun with the children and their families.

A big part of Feast of Fun activities is a to enable families across Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland to enjoy a fun trip and so we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Kirkleatham Museum, Wensleydale Railway and RSPB Saltholme, Danby North Yorkshire Moors Visitors Centre, Bowes Museum, Teesside Wildlife Trust and Teesside University for partnering with us to help families make memories this summer.

One Dad said "As a family we just can't afford the cost for days out and we'd have to go on public transport. So being able to get out and about this summer all together as a family has been special. We have had such fun and its been lovely to laugh and relax together and even the packed lunches were made for us so we didn't even have to stress about having money for that. It's been just great"
